The Committee on the Office of the General Assembly (COGA) welcomed some new faces during a two-day online meeting last week. With the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s first online General Assembly in the history books, members of the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly (COGA) say they are pleased with how the complex technical setup came together. But if this is a sign of things to come for future gatherings, some improvements will need to be made, leaders say.
In a “normal” General Assembly, the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly (COGA) would be preparing for a joint meal together to assess the progress of the General Assembly gathering and say farewell to those rotating off. A one-hour Zoom call had to suffice for members and leadership with the Office of the General Assembly on Thursday.
In their weekly call, members heard from OGA leadership as they prepared for plenary sessions scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Among those attending the meeting for the first time were the Co-Moderators of the 224th General Assembly (2020): The Reverend Gregory Bentley and Ruling Elder Elona Street-Stewart.
The first plenary of the historic 224th General Assembly (2020) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is in the books and organizers are overall pleased with how the online process has worked so far.
From a technical aspect, all systems worked as expected and the overall performance was “fantastic,” according to Vicente Guna, manager of technologies for the Office of the General Assembly. There are a few coordination issues they will be improving for the next plenary sessions, but no major changes are planned for the systems.
With the 224th General Assembly (2020) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) convening in less than 24 hours, the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly (COGA) received its final update from the event leaders on Thursday afternoon.
