Meet Nancy Young

Coordinator of Women's Leadership Development/Racial Ethnic Schools and Colleges

The Rev. Dr. Nancy Young serves as Coordinator of Women's Leadership Development/Racial Ethnic Schools and Colleges.

As coordinator, Nancy helps to set vision, manage ministries and supervise staff in the Women’s Leadership Development offices of the Racial Ethnic and Women’s Ministries/Presbyterian Women ministry area.

Nancy directly oversees the work of the Women’s Leadership Development office, whose main focus is to assess the leadership development needs of women, facilitate ministries that provide opportunities for development, network with women and share information about opportunities, and connect women to opportunities for leadership and growth.

Prior to joining the staff of the General Assembly Mission Council, Nancy served as associate pastor of worship, liturgy and music at Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Midland, Mich., where she had responsibilities of preaching, teaching, outreach, spiritual development, and supervising a staff of six. She was previously associate pastor at Bertha E. R. Strosacker Memorial Presbyterian Church, a 1,300-member congregation, in Midland, and she has also served as co-pastor of a New Church Development in Fargo, North Dakota. Nancy received a Master’s of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry in preaching degree from McCormick Theological Seminary.

Of her exciting role, Nancy says, “The challenge is to promote a culture of leadership in the church with regard to women. I think that’s exciting for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).”

Nancy’s primary goal is to find out what is working for women in the church for both clergy and members in terms of leadership development. She says, “It’s essential to build relationships and community trust throughout the church in order for leadership to rise up.”

Deborah’s Daughters

Sponsored by the office of Women’s Leadership Development in the Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries/Presbyterian Women (RE&WM/PW) ministry area of the General Assembly Mission Council, “Deborah’s Daughters” is designed to provide opportunities for women leaders in the PC(USA) – including clergywomen, elders, deacons, Commissioned Lay Pastors and Christian educators – to discuss issues related to women in ministry. In addition to regional events across the country, women are also invited to meet virtually through a conversation group on AllWomen in the church.

Meet Jeanne Gay, one of "Deborah's Daughters."
